Job Details

The Transportation Safety Manager is responsible for developing strategies to improve D&S Team Member safety and lead initiatives to improve driver safety.  They are responsible for promoting the safe and efficient operations of the driver fleet, yard operations, and delivery techniques.  The role coordinates with the VP of Safety, Director of Logistics as well as D&S leadership throughout Domino’s SCS to drive continuous improvement programs and provides overall driver safety support and guidance throughout the United States and Canada. 

 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

 

(30%) Develop strategies to improve driver safety throughout US & Canada

·       Work with Logistics Director, Regional VP’s, and SCC Directors & D&S TL’s to align on the strategies and goals for driver safety.

·       Partner quarterly with Logistics Fleet Manager to review fleet industry best practices and safety enhancements

·       Manage internal and external resources to develop safe driving techniques (i.e. Smith System, e.g.)

·       Develop the safety component for onboarding new driver TM’s

·       Deliver on driver safety goals and objectives established within SCS

·       Support other initiatives that require driver safety stakeholder support

·       Standardize delivery methods for optimal ergonomics and hazard mitigation

·       Drive effective standardization, use, and compliance of Lytx DriveCam program

·       Provide support on aspects involving fleet safety

·       Oversee SCC Pre-Trip/Post-Trip Compliance

·       Develop an effective and consistent route observation program with supporting metrics

 

 

(25%) FMSCA and DOT compliance

·       Work directly with SCC’s to ensure HOS compliance and reporting

·       Develop strategies to continuously improve and sustain Domino’s CSA score

·       Provide DOT compliance training course for D&S TL’s twice per year

·       Provide field teams with CSA basic scores and reports

·       Oversee and monitor roadside inspection process reports

·       Coach field leaders on roadside inspection issues and maintain roadside inspection documentation

 

 

(20%) Driver injury & accident investigation

·       Oversee and implement the elements of the incident management process including coordination of reporting, investigation, documentation and management of incidents

·       Continuous improvement in driver related recordable, lost time, and first aid injuries

·       Review accident file contents for accuracy and documents needed

·       Provide final vote for accident preventable decisions

·       Assure proper accountability is delivered for preventable accidents

·       Provide a comprehensive and accurate monthly report with appropriate metrics

·       Provide monthly scorecards which include tactics and activities

 

(20%) Transportation audits

·       Conduct Annual DOT compliance audits at all SCC’s

·       Institute a site self-inspection protocol for all sites

·       Conduct maintenance vendor audits to determine maintenance compliance with FMCSR regulations

 

 

(5%) Support the Driver Development Program

·       Work with Learning and Development supporting the Driver Development Program and ensure Supply Chain Centers are adhering to the program

·       Approve and monitor all new drivers in the program – both internal and external selection

·       Manage and update all paperwork associated with the program to ensure compliance in all areas and ensure candidates are progressing through the program

·       Manage and communicate any changes to program and continuously work with the D&S TL on selection into the program

Qualifications

·       B.S. degree w/emphasis on Safety, Transportation, Logistics, or related field

·       Proven experience with writing policies and procedures

·       Experience in ‘stand up’ training and facilitation of programs

·       Possess extensive knowledge of OSHA 29 CFR 1910 regulations

·       Proven leadership and project management skills

·       7-10 plus years of experience in safety/transportation/logistics

·       3-5 plus years of supervisory experience

·       Strong analytical skills

·       Strong experience with defensive driving techniques and best practices

·       Thorough knowledge of DOT regulations (US and Canada)

·       Excellent communication and people skills

·       Ability to work in a team environment

·       Self-motivated

·       Thorough working knowledge of Excel, Word, Access, PowerPoint, ELD onboard computer systems

·       Ability to solve practical problems, collect data, establish facts, draw valid conclusions, interpret a variety of instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables

·       Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.

·       Ability to travel up to 50% to all SCC’s (US and Canada) as needed
